What does Voxer do?

Voxer is a grown-up walkie-talkie app that can take your communication to the next level as a coach. Here’s how:

Features

With the Voxer app, you get access to things like…

  • Private and group messaging
  • Media and file sharing
  • End-to-end encryption
  • Voice message

Other tools (like Slack and Facebook Messenger) do offer similar features.

But there’s one feature in particular that sets Voxer apart: Live voice.

What does live voice do?

Live voice is a voice messaging function that lets you hear the message in real time – just like you’d talk with that person on the phone.

But you don’t have to reply right away. Instead, it will become a recording that you can reply to later.

Alternatively, if you do have time, you can pick up right away when Voxer alerts you that someone is actively talking.

You can reply to questions in a few seconds  – without needing to type out a long message.

Voxer pricing

How much does Voxer cost, then?

Voxer has several paid plans, depending on your needs. The basic plan is always free, though, and it lets you do things like:

  • Use the voice feature
  • Share pictures and videos
  • Chat with large groups or one-on-one
  • Forward messages

For most users, the free app will be enough.

But the pro and business plans offer features like voice-to-text transcription, Dropbox integration, and the option to create your own private network.

These plans cost $3.99/month for the pro version and $6/month for the business version.

Okay, now that you know how much Voxer costs, let’s talk more about what Voxer coaching is and how it can help YOU specifically.

What is Voxer coaching?

Voxer coaching can mean a few things:

  • Coaching exclusively through Voxer
  • Offering Voxer coaching in between your coaching sessions

If you offer a Voxer coaching package, you don’t have any coaching calls. Instead, you support your clients on Voxer with text and voice messages.

And if you use Voxer to support your private clients in between regularly scheduled calls, your clients come to Voxer to get your help on things that come up as they work through what you discussed on your last call.

That’s what I do. My students who are a part of my mastermind coaching program are in a group chat and communicate with me and the other group members through the app.

But why is Voxer often a better tool for coaching than Facebook Messenger or other messaging tools?

Great question.

There are actually a few reasons why Voxer is better than, say, Messenger (besides features like live voice).

First of all, a LOT of people don’t like the idea of being on Facebook for several reasons. (They’re introverted, they don’t like social media, they’re not a fan of Meta as a business, and so on.)

Plus, if your clients only want to use Messenger for communication, they’ll STILL need to create a Facebook account.

With Voxer, you and your clients won’t be distracted by an endless feed.

In fact, I used to host my mastermind in a Facebook group. But both I and my clients liked Voxer much better – so I swapped and didn’t look back.

Ultimately, though, choose a tool that works for how you want to run your coaching business.

With that said, let’s look at four ideas of how you could use Voxer for coaching.

Voxer support between your coaching sessions

The first way to offer Voxer coaching is to use it in between your coaching calls.

So you meet clients on Zoom sessions every two weeks or on a monthly basis.

Most one-on-one coaching packages include support to help clients move forward between those calls.

That’s what I tell my clients, too.

Because your coaching is about results and coaching calls are often not enough to help your clients get to them as fast as possible.

Maybe you don’t like the idea of having to email back and forth or type out WhatsApp messages every time your clients have questions.

In that case, Voxer is a great choice.

Again, you can send voice messages in just a few seconds as if you were having a live conversation

But you can also write normal messages if you prefer going that route – no need to worry about emails getting lost or getting buried in WhatsApp notifications.

Voxer for group coaching

Do you have a group coaching program? Then, Voxer’s features can be a great tool to take advantage of.

Why?

Because in between sessions, your clients can interact with each other within Voxer and share updates, questions, and more among themselves. They learn from each other – which adds to the coaching they receive from you.

Voxer office hours

Want to offer office hours so clients can get their questions answered at specific times?

With Voxer, you can do that.

One benefit of going this route?

You can create a better work-life balance for yourself by limiting your availability to predetermined times (rather than feeling that you have to answer “urgent” questions at 1 a.m. on a Saturday).

Plus, using Voxer to create specific office hours means your clients will consolidate their questions to ask them when you’re available.

And that’s a win-win: Your clients will come prepared with better questions, and you’ll have more time to answer them in-depth.

Voxer after your coaching ends

While I have never done it myself, Voxer can be a useful incentive to offer prospective clients as part of your coaching package.

For example, if a client signs up for coaching for a specific amount of time (like three months), you could choose to offer Voxer support after that commitment ends (e.g. for one month).

A LOT of people get intimidated by the idea of applying what they’ve learned on their own.

They may have learned a ton thanks to your coaching, but… they could still use some guidance once their coaching sessions with you are officially over.

So, consider offering extra Voxer support after your program ends. It’s a great bonus.

Okay, now that we’ve talked about some general ways you can use Voxer for your coaching, let’s get into the specifics.

How to use Voxer for coaching

What are some good ways to get started and create clear boundaries in your Voxer coaching? That’s what we’ll look at next.

Onboard coaching clients

Once you’re ready to set up Voxer, be sure to ask for your clients’ user names so that you can add them to your channel/group.

Quick tip: If you run several coaching groups at the same time, Voxer lets you give them different names, so take advantage of that feature to stay organized.

Set expectations

One great way to use Voxer efficiently? Tell your clients at the very beginning of coaching how quickly they can expect to hear back from you.

For example, here are some questions to consider:

  • Are you only available on certain business days?
  • Do you limit the number of messages clients can send at a time?
  • How long can voice messages be?

These are important questions. Why? Because setting boundaries will help you avoid burnout and ensure you have time for all your clients.

Offer coaching that gets results

I’ve coined a term for offering clients impactful, results-driven support: Coach-sulting.

So… what is that?

It’s a mix of traditional coaching and consulting. In other words, you guide your clients to solutions, but you ALSO offer advice based on your own relevant experience.

I recommend planning out your Voxer coaching sessions ahead of time based on your clients’ goals.

The best way to do this? Break down the end result you offer into small steps.

For example, if you help new career coaches, the end result might be helping them land X clients by X date.

So, that could look something like this:

Month 1: Asking job seekers about their pain points

Month 2: Determining what specific demographic your clients want to help

Month 3: Offering to coach at a reduced rate to get testimonials/referrals

Again, with Voxer tools like live voice, you and your clients can easily check in and talk about how things are going – even if you don’t live in the same time zone, for example.

I talk more about how to plan a coaching call in this video:

Voxer vs. WhatsApp for coaching

There are a LOT of different communication tools out there that you could use. WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Slack, Voxer, and others all have the same basic functionalities, with some key differences like Voxer’s live voice.

So… what should you choose?

As a coach, I use Voxer for a few different reasons:

  • Set-up is a breeze
  • It has all the features I need
  • It’s easy for my students to use

Ultimately, use whatever tool works best for you – and don’t spend a ton of time deciding on your tool. Instead, use your time to find your next paying client so that you can continue building your business.

Next steps

So, there you have it!

Now you know how to use Voxer coaching to help your clients get better results AND use your time more efficiently.

That said, choosing the right coaching tools is one thing.

Another is to build a sustainable business.
